Tom Giesken on Using Drones to Film Billboards

Are you using drones to shoot sign footage?   Giesken Outdoor uses drones to shoot 30 second clips of billboards which it embeds in the company website.   Here’s what the footage looks like.

Insider talked to Tom Giesken about using drones to film billboards.

Did you take the footage yourself?
No. We hired a guy.

Are drones expensive?

Not the one we had done. The guy had put some drone vids on Facebook and I messaged him and asked if he could do some drone shots of billboards. He did a great job and was amazingly cheap. I have a couple guys for backup that are a little more expensive in case he quits but he is my guy for sure.
Has it been a help in marketing signs?
Yes, especially with agencies. They seem to really like them and like to show the clients. It gives a much better feel of the area and traffic content then just a close up and approach pix.
How much did it cost to get the footage?
You’d laugh if I told you.

  1. We used a drone to show the views both north and southbound from the BOARDS perspective. See it here:
