The New Pass It On Campaign

In an era of increased polarization and negativity we need to celebrate the work that OAAA and Pass It On are doing to highlight heroes and encourage people with positive messages.  Insider talked with Gary Dixon at The Foundation for a Better Life which produces the Pass It On campaign.

What’s new at Pass It On?

We have a couple  new billboards coming out.  One with Elton John.  And the other with Misty Copeland, the first African American ballerina to be named to the status of principal with the American Ballet Theatre…and then we’ve got Mister Rogers, Jackie Robinson, Oprah Winfrey, the Wright Brothers, some that have appeared before but are coming back.  Eight all together.

What is the organization’s purpose?

To promote positive values and encourage people to “pass it on.”  We believe that people are basically good and could use a simple reminder.   Sometimes that is all we need to do the thing we have in our hearts to do already.  This is our 20th year and it would not have been possible without the tremendous support of the OAAA and its members!

Talk about the individual ads

Elton John’s Foundation said that they wanted to put an emphasis on his work.  His incredible music is one thing but his life’s work is centered on AIDS and the many millions around the world affected by this disease.  He is one of the largest fundraisers in the world for AIDS–$450 million and saved over 5 million lives.  He is very personally involved and holds fundraising events and travels to the stricken areas himself.  The line is:  “A Knight Fighting For Those With AIDS” Compassion…Pass It On.

For Misty Copeland we read an interview of hers where she said “imagine yourself winning.”  And I thought in today’s challenging times we sometimes imagine ourselves with problems.  And yet, here is this individual who has dealt with significant life struggles giving us glimpse of what is possible—winning!  Misty went from living in a shabby motel room with five siblings to performing professionally in just over a year.  Henry Leutwyler, the photographer said, “Her leap for this photo  was not from a trampoline , she came off the floor.”  The shot is breathtaking.

Jackie Robinson.  I just love that one.  He is such an Icon.  That line is: “Here’s To You Mr. Robinson.”

And then of course Oprah.  Her line: “Be A Force For Good.”  If there’s anyone who epitomizes that quality in the 20th century it’s Oprah.  She has overcome great obstacles in life and has been willing to share those inspiring stories.  Her reputation as an astute interviewer discovering gems in the lives of her guests and for making a positive difference through philanthropy is known globally.

How can out of home companies be a part of this?

We have the ads in print and digital.  We print the vinyls at no charge and deliver them to your door.  We print the ads as bulletins, posters and bus shelters.   Here are links to order vinyl designs or to download digital billboard artwork.
