Daisy Outdoor Advertising Co operates an out of home plant with 199 faces in 8 counties in upstate South Carolina.  The company is an IBO Market Club affiliate.  Billboard Insider talked with Kim Hunter who manages the company’s day-to-day operations, along with her sister, Deana Blanton and her mother, Daisy Lemmons  (hence, the origin of the company’s name).

How did Daisy Outdoor get into the out of home business?

The company was born out of an advertising need of a peach business owned by Jodean Lemmons.  From 1967 forward, Lemmons’ Farms has grown, packed, shipped, and sold peaches.  To obtain advertising for his peach business, Jodean Lemmons contracted with Naegele Outdoor Advertising for billboards.  When he lost the contract for a sign in 1980, it prompted him to build his own sign to insure dependable advertisement each season for the peach business.  That next winter, Jodean got a call from another merchant asking to rent that sign.  By summer 1981, he obtained another sign location and built other signs.  When frost killed the peach crop in 1982 and 1983, Jodean began building signs in order to provide jobs for his loyal employees.

Do you have any digital signs?

Currently, all our faces are static, but one of our goals for the new year is to add our first digital sign.

  1. Their history is mostly lies. Joey Lemmons with his dad Jodean Lemmons built Daisy Outdoor Advertising. Joey Lemmons leased and permitted most of the sign sites where Daisy Outdoor has signs. Joey Lemmons and David Perry did the bulk of sales for over 30 years . However, in 2013, Jodean Lemmons passed from prostrate cancer and Kim Hunter convinced her mother Daisy Lemmons and sister Deana Lemmons to sue Joey Lemmons to make Joey Lemmons sale his 50 percent interest in Daisy Outdoor to Jodean Lemmons Trust that they controlled. The law suit divided the family and destroyed the family relationship. The judge ordered that Daisy Outdoor Advertising assets be divided 50 /50 and Joey Lemmons formed a new company called Fruitland Outdoor Advertising Inc. Most of the installers and all the sales staff went to work for Fruitland Outdoor Advertising. Kim Hunter set herself up as the new operator of Daisy Outdoor Advertising which is now owned by Jodean Lemmons Trust. The beneficiaries of the trust are Deana Blanton, Jodean (Joey) Lemmons Jr, and Kim Hunter. Many of the interstate signs that are owned by Daisy Outdoor Advertising are on property owned jointly by Joey Lemmons and Jodean Lemmons Trust. The leases for these signs will end soon so there is no guarantee that a renewal will be available and 1/4 of the interstate inventory of Daisy Outdoor may disappear in the near future. Also, some of Daisy Outdoor interstate inventory is actually owned by Lemmons Farms Inc but marketed by Daisy Outdoor Advertising. So, potential buyers beware that Joey Lemmons will contest in court any sell of these sign structure as Daisy Outdoor Advertising owned structures. Joey Lemmons has a 1/3 interest in these Lemmons Farms sign structures per Jodean Lemmons Trust . Joey Lemmons spent 30 years building out the Daisy Outdoor plant and with David Perry’s sales help grew Daisy Outdoor Advertising. Kim Hunter is now running a company that she did a hostile takeover of and is now taking credit for what Daisy Outdoor Advertising is today. It is an insult to Joey Lemmons and David Perry who put in years of hard work to build Daisy Outdoor Advertising that she gives no mention or credit in Kim Hunter’s version of the history of Daisy Outdoor Advertising. By the way, Daisy Lemmons did not want the company named after her so Jodean Lemmons and Joey Lemmons said that they would name it Daisy Outdoor Advertising after Mrs Daisy Lindley who was the mother of Daisy Lemmons. Now you know the real history of Daisy Outdoor Advertising.
