Your next billboard structure is going to cost more.  Here’s what several fabricators tell Billboard Insider:

Steel prices are increasing

“Fabricators are getting hammered on steel pricing still with no slowdown in sight.”

“Nothing like this in my 35 years of building signs.”

“Steel costs continue to increase.  Steel beams we paid $0.55/lb. in Jan. are now $0.88/lb.  The last increase was two weeks ago.”

“Originally it was a bigger impact on coiled steel rather than the heavier gage steel.  Now everyone is feeling the impact, along with skyrocketing domestic freight costs.”

“Steel prices seem to be raising based on availability and mill-run timing. We have been getting increases at least once a week and sometimes twice per week. Some of our suppliers have told us their quote expires at the end of each day.”

What’s going on?

“I believe it is supply and demand, the steel mills have not increased production to cover the increased demand this year.”

“US Steel and two other major Mills have closed manufacturing lines for “maintenance”.

“I can only guess based on discussion I have had with people in the industry. I am told that mills are not able to keep up with demand. And demand is continuing to increase.”

How is this impacting your terms?

“We have been doing our best to increase our inventory thereby minimizing the impact to our customers. We hold these prices as long as we can for each of our quotes.”

“We have been fortunate that our suppliers, steel service centers, have kept us in supply. We have been loyal to the same ones for years.”

“We have increased pricing and all quotes are reviewed when ordered.”
