Who’s Who on the Public Out of Home Boards

Here’s breakdown of who’s who on the public out of home company boards, sponsored and analyzed by SignValue.

Some comments:

  • We’ve only listed outside directors and have excluded company employees who also serve on boards.
  • Salaries are higher for board members who head up key board committees like compensation and audit.
  • OUTFRONT and Clear Channel Outdoor pay more than Lamar.  We are mystified why OUTFRONT and Clear Channel Outdoor pay more when Lamar is bigger in revenues and market capitalization.
  •  Women hold 8 of 26 of 31% of total outside director positions for US out of home companies.   This is in line with the 34% average number of women directors for the S&P 500 companies.
  • Out of home industry board seats aren’t very diverse.  Minorities account for only 3 of 26  (12%) board seats at US out of home companies versus an average of 24% of board seats for all the S&P 500 companies.
  • The most popular background for a board member is private equity/equity, followed by advertising, media/out of home, law and politics, banking, tech/adtech and real estate.

SignValue’s Take:We didn’t look at age, but if you have attended industry conferences in the last three decades you know that the OOH industry has been predominantly run by old white men. More women and minorities may just be the superpower that can rejuvenate our little media space.
