Insider is a fan of MIT-educated data scientist Youyang Gu. His work suggests that the US will reach covid herd immunity and we will return to normal by mid summer.  Look at these two charts.

• The number of daily new US covid infections has dropped since December 24 and is projected to continue dropping.   The doomsayer’s worst fears of a holiday surge never happened.  Maybe people are smarter than the doomsayers think and have been taking sensible precautions.
• Vaccinations are increasing dramatically.
• Herd immunity is projected by July 2021 with half of immunity from vaccinations and half of immunity from people who have caught and recovered from the virus.  Yes there are scares about more contagious variants of covid but they are running into more and more people who have already had covid or who have been vaccinated as well as a seasonal pause while people spend more time out of doors.

Insider’s take:  Most roadside out of home plants have recovered from covid.  Insider expects transit, airport and placed based plants to start recovering this summer of 2021 as new covid cases decline and vaccinations increase.    Disagree with this?  Cite your data and let’s have a discussion.
