Which OOH Sectors Declined the Most in 2Q 2020

Yesterday Insider reported that US out of home revenues were down by 45% during the second quarter of 2020.  Place based advertising took the biggest hit (-83%) followed by street furniture (down 69%) and transit (down 68%).  Billboards were down 30%.

Insider’s take:  Looks to Insider like Lamar and the independent out of home billboard companies outperformed OUTFRONT and Clear Channel during the quarter.  Lamar revenues declined by 22% during the second quarter.  OUTFRONT billboard revenues were down 38% during the second quarter.  Insider surmises Clear Channel Outdoor’s billboard business was down by 31% during the second quarter if you assume that Clear Channel Outdoor’s transit and street furniture business (which accounts for 21% of Americas revenue was off 68%) and Americas total revenue was off 39%.  The independent billboard companies must have seen billboard revenue declines below 30% in order for the industry average to come in at 30%.

Insider thanks Steve Nicklin of OAAA for pointing him to the segment data.  Here it is.
