Some things Billboard Insider has heard over the past few weeks.
- The World Cup is the gift that just keeps giving for out of home plant owners. Advertising prices have gone crazy in the sign zones around the sporting venues and there is spillover demand elsewhere in the host cities (Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco and Seattle.
- Steel costs and fuel costs are rising. Steel production costs are up 36% over the past year. Tariffs are limiting competition. Fuel prices have risen 50% since the Iran conflict started. Prices have begun to fall but aren’t back to where they were before hostilities. This translates into more expensive builds and higher operating costs for out of home companies.
- No more announcements by Mubadala about who’s going to be in charge at Clear Channel Outdoor apart from Wade Davis who will be Executive Chairman. Davis is a media veteran (Viacom, Univision) but has no outdoor advertising experience. We along with a few others think this is a bug and not a feature.
