Vendor Spotlight – PlainView LED

Billboard Insider sat down with both Todd Plain, CEO, and Daryl Thomson, VP of Sales and Marketing to talk about PlainView LED.

Todd, The Plain family has been in the Outdoor business for a number of years.  Tell us about the decision to become a digital provider.

I knew 16 years ago when the first digital signs began to hit the market that this is where the sign industry was going, and I wanted to be part of it. Because the PlainView LED leadership team has an extensive out of home (OOH) industry background, everything we do is made for operators by operators.

What do you mean when you say made for operators by operators?

All of our management team members came to PlainView LED from the OOH industry. From sales to real estate to ownership, we have done it all. We know how OOH operators think, what they need, and what their frustrations are. We approach products, service, and software with the mindset of an operator.

Can you provide us with an overview of your product lines?

Daryl, is final assembly of all your products completed in Tennessee?

Yes, we handle all the aspects of final assembly and testing before our products leave our loading docks. We conduct additional testing on the seamless color calibration, brightness and fallback testing, the aging of our signs for quality control, and additional third-party equipment integration. We are centrally located, which gives us a logistical advantage to deliver our products anywhere in the country.

After working in the OOH industry for two years, I moved to Chattanooga in 1999 to work for Eller Media (which later became Clear Channel Outdoor and then Fairway Outdoor) for the next 19 years. It amazed me that, for a time, Chattanooga was a hub for OOH large format printing, with five major poster houses in our city (with some of them still doing business here). The OOH world came through Chattanooga. So, it only makes sense for us, a home-grown company, to bring the DOOH world through Chattanooga.

 

 How big is your sales footprint?

 Most of North America.  Our digital products are UL listed in the United States and Canada.

Todd, the digital billboard space is starting to get more crowded in the last few years.  Why would an operator want to consider PlainView LED as they are looking at providers?
