Transit Ridership Up in Some Markets

Ridership is up in New York and Washington, DC.

Overall, transit ridership was up nationwide nearly half a percent in the second quarter, said stats published by the American Public Transportation Association (APTA). Year-to-date, transit ridership was down .62 percent.

In the second quarter, heavy rail ridership increased 3.27 percent in Washington, DC, and 2.57 percent in New York (MTA). Heavy rail ridership fell during the same period in:

  • Los Angeles County
  • San Francisco Bay Area
  • Miami-Dade
  • Chicago
  • Baltimore (Maryland Transit Administration)
  • Greater Cleveland
  • Philadelphia (Southeastern Pennsylvania)
