The Lesson of 2020 for the Out of Home Industry

Remember last March when it was fashionable to show pictures of empty streets and some media pundits thought that out of home would be crippled and crushed by the pandemic?  The hysteria peaked March 23, 2020.  And if you kept your cool and you purchased out of home stock you made a fortune.  Look how the big three US Out of Home stocks have done since March 23, 2020.  This was a once in a decade buying opportunity.

Clear Channel Outdoor.    Up 295%

Lamar Advertising.     Up 151%

OUTFRONT Media.    Up 128%

Standard and Poor’s 500.     Up 65%

The lesson is that every crisis creates opportunity.  Wasn’t wasted on Huntington Outdoor which is well on its way towards constructing it’s 2,000th sign.  Wasn’t wasted on Circle City Outdoor which profited from a well priced acquisition closed on March 26, 2020.  Or Grey Vick who continued to build signs in the Carolinas.  Or Railroad Outdoor which ends 2020 with revenues up 25%.  Every crisis creates opportunity.
