FOARE is a 501(c)(3) charitable foundation that supports important research and education related to out of home (OOH) advertising issues. Insider talked with OAAA’s Stephen Freitas about FOARE.
According to Freitas, one of the most important functions of the foundation is to award annual scholastic scholarships to students pursuing careers related to OOH advertising.
“FOARE awards 11 scholarships each year to students in graduate and undergraduate programs” said Freitas. “Many of the scholarships are endowed, including the new Nancy Fletcher Leadership Scholarship, which is presented to a future female leader studying at a university or college.”
Most of the scholarships are awarded to students with ties to the OOH industry.
Each year FOARE underwrites groundbreaking marketing research. Freitas explains, “most recently, the foundation has funded a national Nielsen study measuring OOH advertising’s ability to impact consumers and a follow-up Nielsen study focused on the power of the medium to influence consumers in large urban markets. Just completed is an MRI/Simmons study on OOH’s ability to amplify the impact of other media channels. FOARE has also recently funded academic research that identified key OOH attribution benchmarks.”
FOARE also supports industry PSA campaigns and promotional initiatives. Recent efforts include Photo Ark, which was developed in conjunction with National Geographic Society, and Art Everywhere US in partnership with five world-class museums.
The foundation makes significant funding commitments to industry ad campaigns, including support in 2015 for the industry’s Feel the Real campaign and in 2018 for Get Out of Home.
