Scammers Impersonating Digital Billboard Manufacturers

Overseas scammers are posing as AR department representatives for digital billboard manufacturers and are asking you to change the wire instructions and payment instructions for your digital billboard purchase.   Insider is aware of scam emails sent in the name of 2 of the top 8 digital billboard manufacturers complete with official sounding language and company logos.  Insider expects the scammers to try to impersonate other digital billboard makers before they turn their attention elsewhere.  If you get a suspicious email asking you to change where and how you pay for your digital billboard or if you get a suspicious invoice:

  • Do not respond to any links or phone numbers within a suspicious email.
  • Look for unusual email addresses when you hover over the from line in the email.  It’s not from a digital billboard scammer but look at this email which ended in Insider’s spam box.  The From line says Pixar Animations, but when you right click on Pixar Animations you can see that the sender has nothing to do with Pixar.

  • If you have questions contact your digital billboard sales rep directly or contact the digital billboard manufacturer directly via a phone number and email listed on the company’s website.
