They’ve done it again! Chris Cowlbeck and the rest of the crew at IBO have planned a fun and educational Fall Conference in Phoenix (actually the nearby suburb of Chandler) Arizona on October 6 through 9. While not exactly the destination for a respite from the summer heat, Phoenix is the home of some of the legends of outdoor. Karl Eller, Bill Levine, Artie Moreno, Paul Meyer, Wally Kelly, and more all got their start in the City, which remains a positive example of the technology and regulations for the industry.
As usual, there’s a super line up of speakers. I always look forward to Andy McDonald’s OAAA update on federal and state legislation. Max Drachman brings his insights as a leading industry broker on easement and lease strategy. And, my law partner Chris Rothfelder came up with the catchy title of “Free Legal Advice” for his presentation. In between and after the presentations are great opportunities for networking and catching up with old friends and colleagues over a beer or coffee.
This year, John Weller of Billboard Insider came up with the novel idea that he and I would just sit and tell stories, with a working title for the presentation of “Old Men on Outdoor.” Of course, given my relative youth and vigor, I was at first offended by such a characterization, which accordingly was renamed “Decades in OOH: What We’ve Learned and What’s Next.” But, I guess the concept remains the same, namely John and I will talk casually about our decades in the industry, with a few humorous war stories about the characters and cases we’ve encountered along the way. And, at the risk of overdoing the free legal advice already offered in Chris’ presentation, John and I hope there’ll be lots of questions and interaction with the audience.
See you in Phoenix!
