Privacy Opt Outs – the Brave New World for Out of Home

Billboard Insider gets 5-6 privacy opt out requests a week.  Is this the brave new world of privacy opt-outs?  Most requests come from Surf Shark, which has a privacy product called incogni.   Incogni must send out blanket opt out requests to as many websites as possible.  Billboard Insider has never kept any data to delete on any of the people who’ve asked us to delete data.

California, Colorado and Virginia have consumer data privacy laws.  Insider expect more states to pass privacy laws in the next year.  To comply for what’s coming you should be put a privacy policy on your website (here’s Billboard Insider’s privacy policy), become aware of what data you are keeping on what individuals and be ready to delete data from consumers who ask you to.

How are privacy laws impacting your out of home business?  Take the Billboard Insider poll below or email davewestburg@billboardinsider.com. We’ll post the poll results tomorrow.
