Plainview Outdoor Awarded Bus Shelter Contract

The Smyrna, GA City Council agreed to contract with Plainview Outdoor Advertising to replace the city’s existing bus shelters and provide digital advertising per a report from AJC.com. Plainview Outdoor Advertising has been awarded a 15-year contract with one five-year renewable option. Plainview will be using a portion of the revenue share to replace a percentage of the existing shelters each year and provide weekly maintenance and digital advertising.  The contract requires the replacement of at least 5 shelters annually.  The design of the shelters will be chosen by city officials.

The City does require the banning of several types of speech on the digital ads in the shelters.  They include:

  • no political viewpoints/speech
  • no religious beliefs/viewpoints
  • no physical violence against any person or animal that is obscene as defined by federal or state law
  • no message that is “untrue, misleading, deceptive or distorted”
  • no promotion of the use of guns, of birth control or of any tobacco product

The City provides themselves with the right to direct the removal of advertising material displayed at their option.
