It’s become easy to run personal messages on billboards, especially on digital billboards. Last February Adomni allowed people to run personalized valentines on digital billboards in Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Texas, Delaware, Illinois and Maryland for $10.
During Digital Signage week Insider talked to the VP of Sales at an outdoor company which does not take personal ads. She explained to Insider the risks of running a personal ads on billboards.
I once ran a personal message with a happy birthday ad on a billboard. The police called. They asked me to take the ad down because the woman who was mentioned in the ad had a restraining order against the man who bought the ad. We like to say that billboards promote the health of local businesses. If we take too many personal ads we dilute the strength of that argument.
