ArtPop Street Gallery’s Wendy Hickey tells Billboard Insider a heartwarming story of how out of home found a kidney for a young woman…
For one year of 2020/21 we had a chapter of ArtPop in Atlanta. One of our #ArtPopATL artists is Mark Alberhasky. His partner Laura, her daughter, Izzy was in great need of a kidney. Mark called me to ask if I had any ideas in how to get the word out. I said of course, she needs billboards, let me make some calls. Lamar Advertising and Link of Atlanta said yes. Todd Turner of Up to Something designed the ad. Digital Billboards went up all over Atlanta & the community responded in droves! CNN saw the billboards & ran a feature as well! Her perfect match was found & on May 5, 2023 the successful transplant took place & both donor and patient are doing great! In my 25 years in billboards on stressful days I would remind myself we are working in OOH not saving lives, well, yes, yes we are!! The donor was found because she saw the billboard ad/plea to save Izzy’s life!
