Leslie Morris on the Best Time to Check Digital Billboards

Today out of home digital billboard manager Leslie Morris of Skydragon Designs talks about the best time to check your digital billboards.

What’s the best time to check a digital billboard?

We look at each sign (via camera) twice a day.   We try to do it before rush hour in the morning and in the evening because people are in their cars going to and from work and we want to make sure that the signs are rotating ads because they’ll be noticed.

What are the benefits of an out of home company for using your service versus trying to do it yourself?

We’re in the digital sign platforms all day long.  It will take us 15 minutes to do something that the client may have to wait until they get to the office to do.  When you use us to schedule signs they can hand the customer over to us to take care of them while their on to the next sale.

How fast can you change an ad?

Our customers can contract a space on the digital and if the ad is already designed, we can get it up within 15 mins.

How does the ad process work?

Once you have a contract signed, send it to us with the contact info.  We will design the ad and if needed to get approval and then schedule the ad.  When the ad is LIVE, we send a screen capture showing proof of performance.

What kind of reports do you provide clients?

POP or A proof of performance.  We can do a simple POP or a complex one as some marketing agencies need detailed spreadsheets, we do it all.

What are the steps in placing a digital billboard ad?

First I place the ad ( if we didn’t design it) into the sign template to make sure that it’s going to look on that board the way they have it on their computer. Then we enter start and end dates.  Then we can go deeper into the scheduling. It may need to be day parted for example like McDonald’s might want to do coffee in the morning, we make sure all that’s done.  We can also trigger based on weather.  If it’s a cold day trigger a show a coffee ad, on a hot day it may trigger a milk shake.  The last thing we do is view the live camera on the sign and make sure the ad shows up.

What mistakes do you see companies make when it comes to managing digital billboards?

Things can get out of hand fast.  Clients may be out selling and aren’t aware that a client has fallen off the board or has failed to renew. We can help by keeping the expiring client in the forefront for renewal.
