Mixed Media on Operating During Covid and Joining the IBOUSA

Steve Weber, with smile in place

Yesterday’s Company of the Day, Mixed Media, missed our conversation with Steve Weber, Director of Operations, as he spent the day with a dental emergency.  We did get caught up though and here are his comments on the business.

We last talked in early 2019. What were main accomplishments of Mixed Media over 2019?

2019 saw one of our biggest years since the great recession despite losing several high value clients due to acquisitions early in the year.

2020 has been a wild ride for many outdoor companies. How has Covid and protests in Chicago impacted your operation?

Covid has had a huge impact on us. Our primary market is local business. With local businesses suffering greatly for months on end, there has been a significant impact to our business. We’ve been working closely with the local community to provide value added services to help everyone’s bottom line. The protests haven’t really affected us as we’re out in the suburbs.

Were there particular areas of the business you focused on in the first half of 2020?

With very little in the way of willing prospects during quarantine season, we focused on several ongoing development projects that are close to completion as well, improving technology to be quicker and smoother moving forward.

You have an interesting product mix with digital, static and your Adlite product. Has the variety of products been helpful in a tougher economic period?

It has definitely been helpful because each product serves a specific niche. Having more than 1 tool in our belt has proven very useful for providing the right solution to our customers.

What are your goals for the remainder of 2020 and looking forward to 2021?

Quite simply, sales and development. I want to finalize the outstanding development projects to give ourselves a huge leg up in the local market and want to grow our relationships with agencies and buying services for a steady stream of regional/national business. All the while focusing on a handful of local business categories where we have great ideas to help their success.

Why was it important for you to join the IBOUSA?

I’ve been in this Industry for 19 years now, IBOUSA is a group of people across the country doing the exact same thing I’m doing day in and day out. Even if we’re competing for the same ad dollars at times, it’s important for all of us to be pulling on the same end of the rope.
