Mary Meeker and Out of Home

Insider just read Mary Meeker’s Internet Trends 2018, a 294 slide presentation that explains all things internet.  Meeker didn’t specifically mention out of home but two slides in the deck caught Insider’s eye.

The first slide shows that the rate of physical store sales growth has been declining.  Could it be that national out of home sales are weak because most national out of home advertising supports physical store sales and physical out retail sales are down due to competition from the internet?

The second slide shows that it’s cheaper to Uber than own a car in New York, Chicago, Washington DC and Los Angeles.  Uber cars are autonomous vehicles for passengers and yet out of home is stronger than ever in New York, Washington DC and Los Angeles.  Anyone who tells you that the autonomous car means the end of out of home is wrong.
