Local Politics? Randy Burkett Says No More

We heard from Randy Burkett of Burkett Outdoor Media after our article last week on Matt Hinkle being elected to his local City Council.

Read your article where Matt is now on the Oklahoma City Council.

I ran for City Council in Amarillo Texas in 2016. I won 52% of the vote in a 5 man race.

I did one 2 year term and did not run for reelection.  Being on Council takes your eye off your own business.  Fielding all the phone calls from constituents is taxing. Everything from griping about high taxes to my neighbors dog won’t stop barking.  Not to mention the weekly meetings at City Hall.  Some meetings can last 5 hours.

I was paid $10 a week.  LOL

Since my time on Council, I have more than doubled my billboard revenues at www.BurkettOutdoor.com

Being in the sign business I could never vote on sign ordinances or issues due to conflicts.

It’s better to have 4 of your close friends on City Council than yourself.
