Inrix Reports Traffic is 54% of Normal

Inrix reports that national wide passenger travel for the week ended April 17 has stabilized at 54% of normal versus pre-covid 19 periods.  Here’s the chart.

Long haul trucking is down 13% from pre-covid periods.

Local area commercial travel is down 17%.

The metro areas with the largest declines versus pre-covid 19 periods.

  • New York down 63%
  • Detroit down 62%
  • Orlando down 61%
  • Lansing MI down 59%
  • Miami down 59%

The metropolitan areas with the least decline in traffic pre-covid are

  • Little Rock down 34%
  • Visalia CA down 35%
  • Spokane down 36%
  • Boise down 37%
  • Greenville, SC  down 27%

Insider’s take:  Half of all traffic is still in the road and we’ve seen the worst of coronavirus.  Insider expects to see traffic improve as shelter at home restrictions are relaxed in May.
