IBOUSA Members Contribute Vinyls for Hurricane Laura Relief

Every OOH media owner that deals in static inventory deals with the issue of vinyl bulletin materials when the campaign is over.  Chris Cowlbeck, General Manager of IBOUSA, received an email recently from Every Shelter, a non profit that is trying to develop uses for the spent vinyls in the use of shelters for the needy all over the world and that IBOUSA has been discussing the challenges and logistics over the last few months with participation from Meadow Outdoor and Johnson Fretty.

“The email was from Scott Austin Key, Co-Founder and CEO of Every Shelter,” said Cowlbeck, “that said they were stepping up to be the coordinator for an effort in partnership with VOAD efforts to acquire as many billboard vinyls as possible and asked if IBOUSA could help get the message out and assist in any way.  We promptly fired out a blast given our efforts to help them with a shelter solution and our Associates already have many pallets ready, but need many many more.”

“We’ve been asked to help by the leaders of our local recovery efforts (lead by Habitat for Humanity Houston in our case),” said Key.  “At this point, we believe we’ll be delivering them to Habitat’s warehouse here in Houston for distribution, but this could change depending on the need.  I believe we’ll have some funds available to coordinate and cover the shipping though we would welcome any operator willing to cover those expenses.”  Key continued, “We will be filming instructional videos for the volunteer crews and will emphasize the need for the ad side to be installed down towards the damaged roof for those concerned about exposing creative inappropriately.  Please contact me directly if you can help us out in any way.”

“This type of response is similar to the recent hurricane Harvey in Houston where IBO Associate Sparta Crane coordinated those efforts.” said Cowlbeck.  “The OOH industry has a chance now with Every Shelter and folks like Tony Gallager of Sparta to build these efforts to become sustainable.  If any of the larger regional independents or field ops persons at the big three have interest, please feel free to reach out to me chris@IBOUSA.org.  If we can open a line of communication and coordinate some logistics, we may be able to build stockpiles ahead of time in appropriate staged locations with philanthropic partners.”
