Formetco to Kick Off 2024 Q1 Safety Class on February 19th

Formetco has announced that their first 2024 safety class will be held in Duluth Georgia on February 19 through February 22.  Billboard insider contacted Jim Poage, Formetco Safety Director and class instructor for the safety course, to get details on the upcoming class.

Jim Poage, Formetco Safety Director

Jim, could you give us a description of the classes that will be held during the safety training in February?

Of course. The training will be made up of three major topics like the classes we’ve done in the past. First, we will have an OSHA 10 hour class that is tailored to the billboard industry which will cover topics such as Introduction to OSHA, Fall Protection, Electrical Safety, the revised Walking-Working Surface standard, and a number of other safety topics that will fulfill the requirements for the 10 hour class. We will also be having a CPR/First Aid/AED training course that is recognized by the National Safety Council. Along with these topics we will be also offering the Formetco Climber Class to ensure workers meet the requirements of the new standard.

So, if I’ve attended one of the classes in the past is that sufficient, or do I need to plan to return to your class for more training?

That’s a good question. OSHA cards from a 10 hour class never expire, however it is recommended that every 2 to 3 years attendees return to refresh on the topics they went over in a past class, as well as to be updated on any changes that may have happened in the standards since they were last trained. So, if it’s been a while since they attended the class, it would be a good idea for them to return and brush up on the information that we are going to be covering.

Is this training specific to the installer level employee or will business owners and managers benefit from attending it?

It will be beneficial for all groups to attend. The workers will get the benefit of being trained in the OSHA standards as they apply to the outdoor industry, while managers, supervisors, and business owners will be learning about topics that affect them as well such as OSHA Recordkeeping, what standards they need to comply with, how to handle an OSHA inspection, and other topics that will affect them as well as the employees that they send to the class.

That’s great information.  How do we get more information and how do we sign up for these classes?

The easiest way is to go to the website Formetco.com and under the hardware section you’ll find the link to the safety area. Click on that link and it will take you to a screen where you can see how to register for the class. If you have any problems feel free to call the office and speak with any of the sales reps about how to sign up.

Any last words before we end this chat?

These classes are great opportunities to network with others in the industry, see new products, and receive beneficial training in several areas.  At this time, we are very close to being sold out on the seating, so if you are thinking about attending, don’t wait! Register today!
