Formetco Safety Training in February

Safety training is critical to keep your workforce safe and save money.  Formetco is offering a safety training class in February.   Insider talked with Formetco’s Safety trainer Jim Poage.

Jim, you’ve got a safety training event in February.

It’s an OSHA 10 hour class that is Outdoor specific.  This class is unique because it is geared towards people that work in the billboard and out of home industry.  OSHA has gone on record saying that online training can be used to supplement training, but nothing replaces the need for face-to-face training.

We’ll provide CPR First Aid to meet OSHA requirement for remote workers.  OSHA requires that employees who work in areas distant from emergency services be trained in first aid/CPR.

We’ll discuss how to set up, document and execute a a safety program, where to start and how to maintain an effective program.

We’ll discuss how to deal with OSHA in the event of a citation and what you should and should never do when dealing with OSHA

Finally, we’ll offer climber training certification which includes classroom training in safe climbing techniques, as well as hands on climbing evaluation to demonstrate ability to climb.

Is this class just for operations managers?

No, it’s for owners, crewman and operations managers.  Everyone that works in the OOH industry will take something away from this meeting.  You’ll be able to network with folks from a variety of outdoor companies.

What about companies that only have subcontractors and no employees

This is a must attend class for anyone that uses contractors, whether it is only one or if your total operation is made up of contractors.  Learn what your OSHA exposure is under the multi-employer workplace.

Is you work agreement enough to protect you? Can your contractors be reclassified as an employee for the purpose of OSHA investigations?

What sort of feedback do you get from participants?

  • “If you’re in the outdoor industry, especially if you’re in operations, you really need to get this training!” – D.S., OR
  • “I had no idea how much I would learn” – W.F. , GA
  • “All of my guys came back fired up about safety!” – C.Z., OR
  • “This was my second time attending.  Jim still manages to teach me something I didn’t know, every time I talk to him.” – B.D., IN
  • “Thanks Formetco.  The Formetco Operations class is a very cost effective way for small to mid-size Outdoor Companies to create or beef up their safety programs.”  KG, TN

What are some success stories from good safety training?

  • One outdoor company had over $5000 in rebates from insurance company
  • Formetco saved over $40k  in insurance
  • Several companies have used class participation as a negotiating tool when dealing with OSHA fines and penalties
  • Formetco CPR/First Aid Training  has saved the life of several people ranging from an infant drowning in Pennsylvania to several adult choking events.

When and Where is the class?

The class is February 18, 19, and 20 at Formetco in Duluth, GA.
