Faces of Outdoor Celebrates Out of Home Owners and Mentors

Eagle Outdoor President Dan Walcott has put together the Faces of Outdoor website to honor owners and mentors in the out of home industry.  Insider talked with Walcott about the project.

What gave you the idea for the website?

The site is formed to honor the people who got me started in out of home advertising as well as other out of home owners who achieved the American Dream.   Because billboards have “Faces” I thought it was a great name for a website.  I’m donating my time to make the site happen.
You’ve had some great mentors.
At age 15 I started working for  J.W. Lockridge, a man who went from bagging groceries as a new father to earning multi-millions in Outdoor Advertising. He is a man who lettered 4’x8′ signs in his rented apartment and then later painted a 20’x100′ setback billboard for Whiteco with towers of scaffolding he set up himself. He and I both painted for Whiteco and 3M National working on a swing stage to paint.
Tell us about the site.
The site has an owner’s directory, a mentor directory and a company directory.  There is a State list of US OOH Companies is a State by State listing for Agencies and Media Buyers to access when sending RFPs.  Owners can add their company by using the nominations form.  The site is based on publicly available information or information provided by owners.  I want to respect privacy.
The OOH owners listing includes
  • the owners name
  • a picture
  • social media links
  • the states the company is active
Then OOH Company listings include
  • a logo
  • contact name
  • address
  • phone
  • a link to the company’s website
  • bulletins (B) or digital displays (D), junior posters (JP), Posters (P), other out of home (O), wallscapes (W).
The OOH mentors listing includes individuals who have retired or are deceased.  Each listing includes:
  • the mentors name
  • a picture
  • social media links
  • the mentor’s state
  • A “Dan’s Pick” icon if they are not owners of OOH but are worthy of mention. People like Chris Huskey was killed while on the job for Lamar. His memory is needed in OOH even if he was not an owner.
