BROOKINGS, S.D. – June 11, 2026 – Daktronics and Ströer have partnered to deliver “The Whale” display, the latest in Ströer’s portfolio of Public Video Giant Screens, to Hamburg Central Station, the busiest train station in Germany. The display is the largest in Germany and features 342 square meters on the north side of the station. Once completed in 2026, this massive digital out-of-home (DOOH) display shares travel information, advertising and more as passengers move through the area.
“With the Public Video Giant in the concourse of Hamburg Central Station, we are realizing a project that is unique in Germany in terms of size, location and technological sophistication. This new large format represents our vision of designing digital out-of-home advertising as an experience platform and making brands impossible to miss,” says Alexander Stotz, CEO of Ströer Media Germany.
“The Whale” Details
“The Whale” measures 9 meters high by 38 meters wide and features 10-millimeter pixel spacing. The large digital canvas allows the station to share departure and arrival times and other travel information, as well as full-screen advertisements and digital art to engage with passengers.
“The location is perfect for an optimal view of the screen from the platforms to perform forced-perspective effects,” said Rolf Bauer, Daktronics sales representative. “Many companies do use this screen and location for the start of a product launch campaign due to the exclusive location.”
Daktronics provides digital technology solutions that offer flexible scheduling for multiple advertisers as well as quick and easy changes in content. This allows the display to be adjusted by time of day, holidays and special events, including adjusting travel information at a moment’s notice.
