Parker Outdoor is an experienced family-owned and operated billboard business. They started in 1987 in Parker Arizona, and are in their 32nd year of OOH billboard advertising in Washington, Idaho and Arizona.  Brad Sourbeer is the President of Parker Outdoor.

Insider caught up with Brad for an update on the business.

Brad, what are the current details on your billboard inventory?

We now have 6 digital units after adding 4 since April, with a permit pending for one more, so total of 143 ad spaces to lease. People thought I was crazy doing it during the shutdown, however my theory was and still is we will be ready to book space out when the businesses are open again. We added 23 ad spaces, when you subtract the existing one we took down, from April to August 5th

You operate primarily in Arizona and Washington. Which market presents the best growth opportunities and why?

I would say Arizona since the regs are less strict, Washington has very little growth potential.

You have six digital faces. How has your experience been with digital and do you have plans to add additional digital structures?

We are looking for more markets on the West Coast to expand. With the digital’s they are very time intensive to keep booked out. We are finding shorter terms with clients, which means we are always trying to lease them out. The election turned out great for us with 92% occupancy. But now down to 72% , so just overnight we dropped 20% . With digital inventory this can happen , however with our statics that would be a rare.

Have there been differences operating in a Covid environment in Washington and Arizona?

Sure, I make in person sales calls with a mask on , and there is a huge disparity in the business world. RV and boat dealers are practically sold out and waiting on inventory , while bars and gyms are not even open. So I have been focusing sales efforts on the service sector’s like HVAC, plumbers and electricians. I even have one client promoting septic clean outs since everyone had been at home. As for the two states, Arizona has less money than Washington so the smaller businesses I deal with are struggling more. Whereas in Washington , services are still in high demand and therefore the businesses that are open are doing better.

Best state to quarantine in, Washington or Arizona?

Good question. Arizona, the weather is better and you can be outside more. It snowed here today in Washington and it’s not the first time this year either. So, Arizona
