What’s new in the past year?

Reuel Schum, Founder, Milestone Outdoor

The past year for Milestone has been all over the board, literally! As we’re trying to expand, we have found ourselves attending the OAAA conference in Boston MA, the International Sign Expo in Las Vegas NV and a couple of networking conferences in New York City. The painting work has taken us to Nashville TN to promote the new Category 10 venue, to Scranton PA for some apartment building signage and to Richmond, VA for a movie theater ads. Most of last year’s work was in NYC where the advertising murals kept us steady. Always good to have those murals swinging in the backyard.

There’s not much to mention about the winter. Yikes! A lot of our customers don’t realize that we paint with oil enamels. That being the case, it enables us to work in lower temperatures. Next year people, next year! Wink wink.

All in all, things have picked up this year with the warmer weather. We’re excited to start with some larger than life jobs in 2026 and be able to share these murals with the public in June. We’ve noticed that some customers are still coming out of that extended winter hibernation. It should be a fun quarter two!

Our 2026 traveling wings have been de-iced so if you want anything touched by a brush do let us know!

How did you get involved with the out of home advertising business?

Elementary School: Pottery Classes

Middle School: Art Class

High School: Graffiti art

College: Learned design and helped produce the first two issues of Mass Appeal Magazine.

Post College:

Began selling ad space in Mass Appeal magazine.  Mass Appeal formed Colossal Media where I procured its first locations portfolio and sold the ad space to the magazine clients. Scouted and sold 20 hand paint units in NY, LA, SF, PDX, SEA and CHI for a 2 year Bacardi perm.

Founded Milestone Outdoor in 2014.

Still learning the OOH industry as we go.

How long does it take to paint a typical mural?

The typical mural will usually take 4-6 days to paint. During this time people will stop to ask questions and take pictures.
