How did you get into the out of home business?

A major fast food chain was coming to my hometown the same year I was starting to build a house.  I had an idea of building a billboard on family land to help make my new house payment.  I met with the managers of the chain to show them my location and proposal.  Not only did they accept my proposal on the spot, they asked if I wanted to do advertising for them on all roads coming into town.  So, I went from building one face to 5 structures in one short meeting!  Jarman Outdoor Advertising was born on that day.

Tell us about your plant.

I went to work as an administrative manager for a textile company straight out of college.  As mentioned above, I stumbled into the OOH industry almost by accident after meeting with the managers of a fast food chain in my hometown.  Once I completed construction of the first 5 structures, I continued building a few structures each year while still working in textiles.  I continued to work in textiles until 2016, when I decided to put all my time in OOH.  I currently have faces in many eastern NC counties.  I enjoy working directly with my customers and landowners as I treat them the way I would want to be treated.  I take pride in my plant as it has become a piece of the community I live in.

What impact has Covid had on your business?

I feel blessed that Covid-19 has had minimal impact on my business.  I attribute this to the majority of my customers being local businesses and not national advertisers.  I did lose a few customers and had to get creative with billing and payment ideas on others, but for the most part my business has been solid throughout the pandemic.  I actually reached out to Billboard Insider for ideas on what others were doing with distressed customers at the beginning of the pandemic, and appreciate the feedback!

Do you have any digitals?

I do not “currently” have any digitals in my inventory, but I am always looking for that perfect spot.
