Greensigns operates a network of digital and static billboards in the Chicago area.  Joseph Mancino is CEO.  Mancino was a guest on the Billboard Insider podcast in June 2o20.  We caught up with him this week.

How did you enter the out of home business?

I was a senior in college and had to go to night school…I got into sales…I was selling business phone systems…I sat in the office and over a two week period I watched a billboard – a 14 by 48 billboard – being constructed in the parking lot right in the front of my window.  And I just kept thinking “what is that all about…once the logo went up I saw it was for 3M National Advertising…I called on them and sold them a phone system and six months into the sale they asked me to join their company.

What’s new over the past year

Over the past year GreenSigns has forged some important new partnerships. We onboarded the Apparatix Operating system and went live on 5+ DSP/SSP platforms with our green digital network. Operationally the new software platform has allowed GreenSigns greater exposure in new business channels as well as streamlining our back door operations.

We continue to put planet and purpose as our core mission. In Q3 we became members of AdNet Zero, and I joined the US Leadership Group. AdNet Zero a is global initiative launched by the UK’s trade body

The Ad Association, supported by a growing number of international and US businesses and trade bodies. Their mission is to drive to reduce the advertising industry’s emissions from advertising operations – the businesses, production processes and media ecosystem. They develop measurement standards for members to reduce their carbon footprint. The partnership is a natural for us, and helps us spread our message of sustainable out of home practices to our industry peers. Look out for ANZ – we are coming for you.

Oh yea, and I got a new knee last Friday and it hurts like you know what.

What are some of your objectives for the coming year?

We continue our mission to reduce our carbon footprint and encourage our entire business community and peers to do the same. We also have expansion plans that will add additional new, exciting highway digital signs to our network. Watch for our growth.
