Alliance Media Joins Global Essays for Peace Initiative

Johannesburg, South Africa – On 21 September, digital screens will display a single burning candle. No copy. No branding. No flags.

Alliance Media will join out-of-home media companies around the world in supporting Essays for Peace, a global initiative marking the United Nations International Day of Peace.

As part of the initiative, Alliance Media will donate space across its digital out-of-home network to display a video of a burning candle, joining a global effort to use screens as a shared symbol of peace, reflection and unity.

The concept is deliberately simple. The candle carries no commercial branding, political messaging or written message, allowing the same image to be understood across countries, cultures and languages.

A Global Moment for Peace

Essays for Peace brings together media owners, organisations and communities around the world each September. According to the initiative, its 2025 edition reached more than 120,000 OOH advertising screens across over 250 cities and 60 countries, with more than 150 OOH companies participating across five continents.

The 2026 edition will continue that global effort, inviting organisations to contribute screen time on 21 September and create a collective moment of reflection around the International Day of Peace.

“Peace is something that reaches beyond borders, cultures and communities. We are pleased to support Essays for Peace and to use our network to contribute to a positive initiative that brings people together,” said Greg Benatar, Group Director at Alliance Media.

For Alliance Media, the initiative is an opportunity to use the reach and visibility of out-of-home media in a different way.

For a moment, screens designed to capture attention will ask for nothing from the people who see them. Just a candle and a moment to reflect on peace.
