Adrian Buice on Building a Digital Billboard

Neil Bell interviewed Amplify Outdoor Founder Adrian Buice on the Bell Board podcast while Amplify Outdoor was installing it’s first digital billboard.  You can watch the entire interview below.  Some of the highlights:

Buice had to accept some conditions from the city and his landlord to get this sign

In the late ’70s, early ’80s, this used to be a gas station, and there were two steel poles on the other side of where my pole sits. The poles went 120 feet in the air, and both the landowner and the city wanted one of these poles down. As part of the deal to get the deal done, I agreed to cut them down…The deal was, we take these two poles down. But he’s also got some on premise signs, and part of the deal was also to paint those. So in the middle of last December in 30 degree weather, we were out here with brushes and rollers, hand painting his own premise signs.

On the importance of getting title

Other little hiccups I ran into. If I had any advice for anyone who’s building the first board, get that title work done. Get that title work done.  We found a couple of things with the title. A couple of mortgages that were paid off just weren’t recorded. A couple of mortgages that are on the land here also weren’t recorded. So get that title work done up front. Once we got it all working, it went smoothly. I just wish I had done that a lot sooner. It would have kept some delays from happening, because you could have dealt with it while the permitting was going on.
