Insider thinks there are at least 825 independent outdoor advertising companies.

• Billboard Insider has identified 327 outdoor advertising company websites and is discovering new websites every day.  You can see 241 of the companies in Insider’s 2016 outdoor advertising website ranking.  We will release updated website rankings in a month.  The number of US outdoor companies exceeds this  because not every small outdoor company has a website

• Borrell Associates estimated there are 2,190 US outdoor advertising companies in the 2016 Outdoor Advertising Outlook.  Seemed high to Insider so he asked Kip Cassino of Borrell about the number and Cassino said that the count is for outdoor advertising business locations, not business entities.  Insider thinks this means that every Lamar and Clear Channel and Outfront regional office shows up in the count, hence the high number.

• Max Drachman of Kalil & Co thinks there are at least 500 independent outdoor companies.

• Gabe Oliverio of Johnsen Fretty thinks there are perhaps 1,000 independent outdoor companies based on his firm’s sampling of outdoor advertising permits in a few states.

• Marci Werlinich at OAAA says there are 825 independent billboard companies in the OAAA database.   OAAA continually updates its database.  Insider thinks this number is probably the most accurate.
