As the year closes, the billboard industry recalls leaders who passed away in 2020, and honors their memory. Insider lists some of the colleagues we lost in 2020, and asks readers to add to this (alpha) list:
- Jeff Bohnert (April 20) was president and general manager of DSW Signs based in Missouri. He worked 33 years with DSW after graduating from Southeast Missouri State University. https://billboardinsider.com/jeff-bohnert-rip/
- COVID-19 claimed Rick Del Mastro (April 15). He was a pioneer in transit advertising, Times Square displays, and street-level formats. Del Mastro was inducted into the OAAA Hall of Fame in 2019. https://billboardinsider.com/rick-del-mastro-rip/
- Attorney David Flint (October 19) co-founded Schreeder Wheeler & Flint, Atlanta. Flint, recalled OAAA Counsel Eric Rubin, “won a major just-compensation case before the Georgia Supreme Court, and he also handled many other matters for the industry in Georgia.” https://billboardinsider.com/david-flint-rest-in-peace/
- Richard Headrick (October 5) was owner of Headrick Outdoor Media based in Laurel, MS. He “was an inspiring OOH legend who built billboards and rebuilt people,” said Nancy Fletcher, former President and CEO of OAAA. https://billboardinsider.com/richard-headrick-rip/
- Wade Leslie IV (November 3) was president and chief executive officer of West Virginia Outdoor Advertising. “A great guy who was great for the industry,” summed up Shane Walters of Lamar Advertising Company. https://billboardinsider.com/ooh-industry-mourns-loss-of-wade-leslie/
- World War II combat veteran Lewis Manderson (May 5), founded an out of home media company (Creative Displays), entered the industry’s Hall of Fame, and served as chairman of OAAA. https://billboardinsider.com/lewis-manderson-rip/
