OSHA Inspections and Out of Home

OSHA inspections can be costly.  Insider just finished reviewing data on penalties written by OSHA to display advertising companies (NAISC Code 541850) for the 12 months ended August 2018.

  • OSHA wrote $152,000 in penalties to 26 different display advertising companies during inspections in the past 12 months.
  • The average initial penalty was $5,867.  This was reduced to $3,819 during the settlement process which suggests that you should always ask for a reduction in a fine especially if you’ve got a good track record.
  • 9 of the 26 fines were handed out in Virginia. Insider suspects there is an extremely zealous Virginia OSHA office or extremely zealous OSHA inspector involved.  Virginia out of home companies take note!  3 of the 26 fines were in California.  12 states had 1 fine each (Connecticut, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, North Carolina, North Dakota, New York, Ohio, Texas, Washington and Wisconsin).

You can view the raw data for the past twelve months here.
