The OC Register reports that Electra Media Inc. has asked the Westminster planning commission for a variance to construct a 64 foot tall double-sided digital billboard west of the Springdale street overpass on the southwest side of the I-22 freeway in Westminster, CA. The town’s sign code limits signs to 35 feet. The sign will operate from 5am to midnight. The city will be some revenue sharing from the sign. In addition an old Sunset Ford electronic billboard at Garden Grove Boulevard and Seneca will be removed. You can read the entire variance request, including the lighting report and staff report here. Electra Media added a letter from a local auto dealer supporting the sign variance request because the sign will provide an advertising opportunity for the dealership.
Insider’s take: This looks to be a new venture for Electa Media which seems to have been done mostly on-premise signs in the past.
