Outdoor Impact is an Independent Outdoor outdoor Advertising company based in Chicago.  Billboard Insider talked with Joel Byron, the company’s President.

How did you get into the out of home advertising business?

I guess it happened somewhat by accident. I had always wanted to get into advertising or media, and I heard about an opening at what I thought was an advertising agency. I interviewed for a marketing position, the interview went well, and I was offered the job. It turned out the company was Foster & Kleiser, one of the largest outdoor advertising companies in the country at that time.  What started as an unexpected opportunity turned into a career, and I’ve been involved in out-of-home advertising ever since.

Tell us about your plant.

Most of our plant is in Cook County, with an emphasis on Chicago’s North Side. The majority of our inventory is located in some of the City’s most sought-after neighborhoods. We are in Bucktown/Wicker Park, Lincoln Park, Lakeview, Boystown, Wrigleyville, Uptown, Andersonville, Rogers Park, and other high-demand areas. We offer primarily wallscapes and selected bulletin coverage. We also offer backlit displays in one of Chicago’s most iconic and unique vertical boutique shopping centers.

What’s new over the past year?

In March, we entered our 34th year in business, which is something we’re very proud of.  We are one of the oldest independent outdoor advertising companies in Chicago.  We’ve added several new locations to our plant in the last year and have several others in various stages of development.

Any digital?  If so whose digitals do you use and what have you learned?

At this point, we don’t have any digital displays. We do have some opportunities that we’re currently exploring. As with any investment, we’re focused on opportunities where the location, the economics, and the fit within our overall plant all make sense.
