Good news for roadside billboards and transit advertising.
US miles travelled increased 0.9% to 295 billion vehicle miles during August 2025 according to the FHWA August 2025 Traffic Volume Trends. Miles travelled increased 0.9% to 2,214 billion vehicle miles year to date. Miles travelled increase the most on the east cost and the least in the midwest. Here are the results by region.

Public transit trips are growing as well. Public transit ridership grew 7.26% during the second quarter of 2025 according to the APTA 2025 Q2 ridership report. Heavy rail and commuter rail grew the fastest. Buses grew the slowest. Here’s the segment data.

Transit ridership is still lagging behind where it was prior to covid. Here’s what you see when you compare 2Q 2025 transit ridership with ridership in 2Q 2019 prior to covid…6 years and still not completely recovered. Total ridership is 18% below where it was 6 years ago.
