Dane County Turns Down Billboard Money

Screen Shot 2016-04-13 at 12.56.11 PMThe Sun Prairie Star reports that Dane County supervisors passed up a $200,000 revenue boosting billboard contract at the Dane County Regional Airport by an 18-16 vote after neighborhood groups opposed the outdoor advertising saying it didn’t fit into revitalization efforts.  The airport has leased billboards to Adams Outdoor for 30 years.  The contract would have allowed Adams Outdoor to lease three billboards for $35,000/year plus 28% of gross revenue.  It included 4 months of free airport advertising.  The airport was in favor of the contract because the funds are unrestricted and can be used for any airport operation where there are deficits.  Adams argued that the three billboards on the airport are specifically requested by local advertisers and turning down the contract will hurt economic development.
