Braintree, MA civic group opposes billboard

The Patriot Ledger reports that the North Braintree, Massachusetts Civic Association is planning to oppose a request by Clear Channel to install a double sided electronic billboard on land adjacent to 131 Elm St.  The Massachusetts Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting on the proposal on April 13.  A billboard in the area which was approved last year will generate $1.5 million in lease payments to the town over 25 years.

Insider’s take: “We don’t need to be Las Vegas” says the head of the local civic association.  Is she willing to forgo $1.5 million in funding for the city budget over the next 25 years in order to avoid having to look at a digital billboard?  Time for Clear Channel to assemble a coalition of local businesses and law enforcement personnel to make the case for the benefits of a digital billboard.
