Insider spoke with Tom for an update on the business.

What would you say your main take away was for 2020 while dealing with the Covid crisis?
2020 and the COVID crisis had a significant impact on our business. My main take away is that relationships matter. As a regional independent outdoor company we have personal relationships with a lot of our advertisers and understood from a personal level the impact the COVID pandemic was having our their business. We worked with all of our advertisers to find a solution that allowed them to continue reaching their customers via out of home and that worked for us as well.
How is the economy and mobility in Sonoma County?
We service Sonoma and Solano counties and both counties are recovering nicely. Sonoma County is experiencing strong economic growth now that CA is opening up more as the tourist industry with wineries, Sonoma Coast and other recreational areas now open and accepting visitors. Solano County is uniquely situated between the SF Bay area and Sacramento and on the way to Lake Tahoe and its economy is starting to show signs of growth with CA opening up and the influx of motorist traveling to Lake Tahoe. My observation is that mobility in Sonoma County is back to pre-pandemic levels and Solano County mobility is very strong as well and should be back to pre-pandemic levels soon as CA continues to reopen.
Has Veale Outdoor had the opportunity to grow over the past year?
2020 was a challenge due to the COVID 19 pandemic and we didn’t expand last year. However, in 2019 we acquired 6 static billboard faces in Solano County along I-80. The 2019 acquisition has been great as the new signs complement our digital units on I-80 in Solano County. We are always looking for new opportunities to grow and hope to add new structures in the next year.
How has the Evergreen program worked out for your business?  Is renewable electricity becoming a trend in California?
The Sonoma Clean Power Evergreen program has been great for us as our Sonoma County inventory is 100% powered by clean renewable energy. The Evergreen program has provided an opportunity for us to share that our Sonoma County outdoor inventory is powered with 100% clean renewable energy with prospective advertising clients and the community that Veale Outdoor Advertising is committed to a sustainable future for all Californians. We have received positive feedback from clients and public officials as well so it makes us feel good to do our small part in using renewable energy. Programs like Evergreen are becoming very prevalent in CA and I believe the trend will be more and more communities will embrace similar programs.
