Marc Borzykowski on Vector’s LA Bus Shelter Contract

On September 20, 2022 the Los Angeles City Council approved a bus shelter contract with Vector Media and Tranzito.  We  carried the Vector press release yesterday.  Billboard Insider asked Vector Media CEO Marc Borzykowski about the project.

How did the Tranzito partnership come about?

Marc Borzykowski, CEO, Vector Media

The CEO of Tranzito, Gene Oh and I first connected almost two years ago.  At the time Tranzito was considering a bid on the Los Angeles bus shelters and knowing they would need to partner with an OOH company, Gene met with the heads of numerous OOH companies.  Ultimately, Gene and I hit it off and discovered a lot of commonalities in the way the two companies did business.  We are extremely passionate, hands-on and place a high-premium on integrity and partnership.  We realized that Tranzito’s expertise creating smart transit solutions and Vector’s innovative and expansive sales platform, was the perfect combination, not only for Los Angeles, but for any municipality looking to solve real-world problems through connected infrastructure.

Can you talk a little bit more about the digital panels which will be incorporated into the shelters?

The digital panels are anticipated to be new model 75″ LED bus shelter panels.  These panels will also be deployed on many of the amenities being deployed such as scooter docks, equipment lockers and wayfinding kiosks. These panels will have standard safety and performance features such as auto cooling and heating, tempered glass, anti-reflection coating and auto-brightness sensors and will be able to accommodate additional optional features such as interactive touch screens and cameras should the City seek to deploy them.

What is the total capital required to build out the structures?

The program capital estimate is $236m.

What does this do for Vector?

For Vector, we are now in a position to bring our unique approach to OOH to the most dynamic media market in the country through the most expansive and exciting OOH offering in all of Los Angeles.

More important, however is what this program brings to the City; this program will bring much needed shelter, shade, safety and comfort to millions of Angelenos and visitors and will provide the City and its residents with state-of-the-art, adaptable infrastructure that will evolve with Los Angeles.

Additionally, as the worlds’ eyes turn to Los Angeles in the next few years with the upcoming Olympics and the World Cup, this program will modernize the City’s transportation infrastructure to be fitting of the world-class city that LA has always been.

True credit for this program should be given to the City and its leadership for their vision and commitment to serving their constituents.  In particular Mayor Garcetti, Council President Martinez, Council Committee Chairs Krekorian and Blumenfield, the City Council, and StreetsLA, who have championed the needs of bus riders to provide equitable shelter, shade, safety, and comfort at LA’s bus stops.
