Yesterday Billboard Insider ran an interview with Comstor Outdoor’s Jason Duff in which he talked about the importance of investing in your community. Huntington Outdoor CEO Justin Powell says ditto. Justin’s company Huntington outdoor bought an empty church in Gordon, Ohio and converted it to company offices.
Jason Duff is one of the most inspiring examples of what a single entrepreneur can do to transform a small town. Through his vision and companies like Comstor Outdoor and Small Nation, Jason has led a remarkable revitalization of downtown Bellefontaine, Ohio—turning vacant buildings into thriving businesses, attracting entrepreneurs, and creating a vibrant, walkable community. He has shown that economic development doesn’t just happen in big cities; with intentionality, investment, and leadership, small towns can become places where people want to live, work, and build their lives.
I’ve watched Jason’s work from a distance for some time and have been incredibly impressed. In a small way, I’ve tried to replicate what he’s doing in my own community—investing in buildings, supporting local businesses, and creating opportunities for people. Our small towns will grow and thrive because of people like Jason who refuse to accept decline as inevitable and instead put their resources to work building something better for everyone.
