As it’s election season last month we looked at three examples of billboards using an election theme to help their products stand out in the city skyline. This month with the clock ticking to Election Day here are three outdoor ad examples featuringAbraham Lincoln and the iconic Lincoln Memorial in creative ways.
First up is a billboard for the History series Join or Die with Craig Ferguson, with the host getting cozy with America’s 16th President. This TV billboard hints at the satirical nature of the historical political show and was photographed along the L.A.’s Sunset Strip in January 2016.
The second example is vibrant giant-sized billboard for the podcast-turned-TV specials, Pod Save America. This super-sized HBO billboard with Honest Abe rising from the national monument and rolling up his sleeves to help save democracy was snapped along the Sunset Strip in October 2018.
And the third billboard is a really eye-catching example, with Lincoln in dismay over the current handling of the COVID-19 crisis and even wearing a 3D embellished face mask and arm, fabricated by Atomic Props & Effects. This arresting billboard for the second half of fifth season of political documentary series, The Circus, was captured along West Hollywood’s Sunset Strip in August 2020.
Obviously this is not the first time an infamous national monument has been used in billboard advertising, as you can see with these other Statue of Liberty billboards and this Mount Rushmore spoof billboard for Veep.
Here’s hoping you can all safely exercise your right to vote this Election Day and make Abraham Lincoln proud.
Come back next month when we’ll be taking a look at a trio of Action Shot ad creatives that helped cause a real spectacle in the city skies.
