Cobb business faces boycott after advertising on LED billboard screams the newspaper headline. Cobb, Georgia residents are using Next Door to organize a boycott of a Elan cycle fitness after Elan placed an ad on a digital billboard owned by Vision Outdoor, LLC.
Vision was granted 8 digital billboard permits in June 2019 settlement of a Reed v Gilbert lawsuit against Cobb County.
There may be less the this story than you think. A TV station news feature says the the cycle shop hasn’t lost customers and interviews a new customer who says “Some of the comments were pretty terrible. I don’t think that anybody should be able to bully a business.”
You can watch the video below.
Insider’s take: Someone should point out that Cobb County’s taxpayers received an $800,000 development fee in exchange for the issuance of the Vision permits; this billboard promotes the health of the area’s local businesses; this billboard will be used for county law enforcement for emergency services; and that unsold ad slots in this billboard will be made available for public service messages.
