Cree Responds to Watchfire Lawsuit

As a follow up to our story this week about Watchfire and Cree, the Triangle Business Journal reports that Cree pushed back by filing a counter suit on February 28th.

The litigation surrounds a Cree product called C4SM – oval LEDs designed for full-color video screens, digital billboards and passenger information signs. The components are manufactured in China and tested in Durham NC. And, in the case of some of Watchfire’s supplies, are assembled by Flextronics Manufacturing.

In May of 2018, Cree claims they extended a $1.1 million credit to Watchfire as a show of “goodwill,”. Cree goes onto claim that the agreement released it from any liability related to those products Watchfire purchased before March of 2018. Cree claims Watchfire continued to make purchases after signing the agreement.

Cree asks a judge to rule that it didn’t breach any warranty.

Insider will continue to provide updates as we have additional information.
