David Ogilvey said a billboard should be a “visual scandal” . Insider is not sure that he agrees but he did a double take when he passed this billboard in Seattle. The billboard is for Dolly, Inc. a Seattle startup which connects people who have trucks with people who need to move something. Here’s what Dolly’s CEO told Geekwire about the billboard:
The concept came out of an internal brainstorm where we challenged ourselves to come up with fun, creative and shareable marketing ideas. The billboard has only been up for a week and a half and we already consider it a success. It’s been really fun reading and hearing about people’s reactions.
Brilliant marketing or taking a concept too far? What do you think? Chris Cowlbeck of Look Advertising tells Insider that this kind of ad can be an epic fail. Some of Cowlbeck’s University of Oklahoma college buddies tried to make money by printing and selling buttons which said “Tuck Fexas.” They didn’t sell any buttons and lost their investment.
