Winterville Studying Digital Billboards

Screen Shot 2016-07-24 at 9.37.51 AMReflector.com reports that the Winterville, North Carolina town council is studying a request by Riley Outdoor to put a digital sign on Fire Tower road near the old Sweet Karolina diner building just east of Memorial Drive/Winterville Parkway.  The town has prohibited off-premise advertising since 2006.  Winterville’s planning board voted in March to approve the request.  The ordinance might include the following:

  • A 3,500 square foot spacing which would allow perhaps two digital signs.
  • Signs would be limited to Memorial Drive/Winterville Parkway.
  • A provision to provide the town or town nonprofits the right to use a certain number of flips on the sign.

Insider’s take: 3,500 foot spacing is very strict.  Spacing of 1000-1,500 feet is more normal.
